Our Founder


Nina Zaragoza has a Ph.D., in Reading and Special Education and her expertise spans both regular and special education. She is an expert in teaching the art of writing to children and specializes in communicating this gift to teachers. She is dedicated to nurturing the creative writing spirit in as many children and teachers as she can and does so with children, classroom teachers, university students and parent groups worldwide.

Dr. Zaragoza is also passionate about helping teachers, families and community workers set up respectful, relational, and fruitful communities where all members are enabled to progress to their fullest potential. Her classrooms are dynamic and engage all classroom participants both academically and in the responsibility of maintaining the positive atmosphere of their learning community.

Dr. Zaragoza was a Professor of Education at Florida International University, Michigan State University, Brooklyn College and other universities across the country. She was a public school teacher in Miami, Florida and in New York City. She has also taught English, facilitated university workshops, and worked with teachers and children; mothers and children in the United States, Europe, Africa, South America, Asia and the Middle East.


Dr. Zaragoza has authored numerous books, chapters and articles in the areas of reading, elementary education, early childhood and learning disabilities. She is the author of Rethinking Language Arts: Passion and Practice (2002) and Look I Made a Book: Writing in A Kindergarten Classroom (2005). She has also written a children’s book, Black Dog Brown Dog and has compiled the anthology, We Read Our Own Stories: Children Write for Children, a collection of over 100 short stories written by young authors from around the globe.Her newest books include Portrait of My Children: An Invitation to Love (in Press) and A Letter to the Beloved of Haiti (in Press)
